MOUNDRIDGE — The Moundridge High School softball team used a 10-run first inning to stop rival Canton-Galva 16-4 Wednesday in the Class 2-1A regional finals in Moundridge.

The game was halted in the fifth inning on the 10-run rule. Moundridge held just a 6-5 advantage in total hits. The Wildcats had five errors to four for the Eagles.

Canton-Galva scored a run in the top of the first, but the Wildcats responded with 10 in the bottom of the inning.

Each team scored two runs in the third inning. After an Eagle run in the top of the fourth, Moundridge scored four runs in the bottom of the fourth.

Chelsea Knight and Jadah Moore each had two hits and drove in three runs for the Wildcats. Taylor Everett had two hits and an RBI for Canton-Galva.

Moore pitched all five innings for Moundridge, striking out three. Everett went 2 1-3 innings for Canton-Galva, striking out four. Ashton Brewer went 1 2-3 innings, striking out three.

Canton-Galva ends the season 5-15-1. Moundridge, 14-7, advances to the Class 2-1A state tournament, which begins May 25 at the Green Sports Complex in Pratt.
