The Sedgwick High School baseball team lost 10 seniors off last season’s 18-4 squad, but the Cardinals hope good numbers out this season will help keep the team in the upper division of the Heart of America League.

Doug Mabry is the coach of the team, assisted by Jeff Werner.

The Cardinals finished 9-1 in the HOAL, finishing second. Sedgwick also took second in Class 3A sub-state play.

Sedgwick is led by senior Marshall Rutschman, a second-team All-HOAL first baseman; and junior Brayden Francis, an honorable mention All-HOAL utility player.

Other seniors on the roster include Ashton Park, Matt Schrick and Chris White. Other juniors include Neal Bever, Brock Horning, Kyle Lockley and Ben Polhman.

Sophomores include Trevor Bright, Trey Bright, Andrew Hoffsommer, Brandon Grandstaff, Braxton Park, Jade Pegues, Hooper Schroeder, Elijah Shrewsbury, Colton Smith and Jason Sperry.

Incoming freshmen include Jasper Cochran, Tristan Inkelaar, Roger Inlow, Houston Juhnke, Mason Lacey, Creighton Park and Kale Schroeder.

“The team will have many new faces on the varsity field, as last year’s team graduated 10 seniors,” Mabry said. “Returning all-league players Marshall Rutschman and Brayden Francis will be expected to lead the team to continued success. Young players will likely be expected to fill starting roles. Newcomers Neal Bever, Colton Smith, Kale Schroeder and Mason Lacey look to make an impact.”
