OKLAHOMA CITY — The Bethel College competitive cheer team finished the season Friday and Saturday with a 10th-place finish at the National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics Nationals at Abe Lemons Arena in Oklahoma City.
It was the first year of the event being a sanctioned national varsity NAIA championship. Last year, it was a national invitational meet.
Bethel finished in the top 10 for the second straight year.
Host Oklahoma City University won the title at 87.08, followed by Saint Francis (Ind.) at 82.93, Davenport (Mich.) at 80.97, Lindenwood-Bellville at 74.82, Concordia (Mich.) at 74.11, St. Ambrose at 73.48, Missouri Valley at 73.33, Lourdes at 72.77, St. Gregory’s at 72.59, Bethel at 69.58, MidAmerica Nazarene at 64.93 and Indiana Wesleyan at 64.48.
Bethel struggled on the first day of competition, scoring at 65.30. That score would count as 25 percent of the Threshers’ final score.
Oklahoma City led both days of the competition.
