EMPORIA — The Newton High School gymnastics team ended the regular season by winning a dual meet over Emporia Monday in Emporia.
Newton won the meet 105.95-91.075.
Newton took the top three places in the all-around.
Kailey Naysmith won the all-around at 35.725. Naysmith won the balance beam at 9.55, the floor exercises at 9.175, took second in vault at 9.1 and second in the uneven parallel bars at 7.9.
Carlye Anderson was second in all-around at 35.7. She won the bars at 8.7, took second on the floor at 9.1, third on the beam at 8.95 and fourth on the vault at 8.95.
Kaylee Anderson took third in the all-around at 34.525. She won the vault at 9.2, took second on the beam at 9.1, third on the bars at 7.875 and fifth on the floor at 8.35.
Becca Meyer took sixth in all-around at 29.325. Meyer was fourth on bars at 6.3. She scored an 8.2 on vault, a 6.925 on beam and a 7.9 on floor.
Katherine Lindgren scored a 7.7 on vault, a 7.1 on beam and an 8.0 on floor.
“Good meet, especially beam and vault,” Newton coach JoAnne Thaw said. “Kailey Naysmith had her best meet of the season with her season high on vault, beam and vault. The team score on beam and vault were our season high. We're still struggling on bars but we fixed a few things in practice tonight and it should help us out. We'll be ready for state and I know the'll give it their all.”
The state meet is 11 a.m. Saturday at Shawnee Mission South High School.
