Valley Center (6-1) at Andover (5-2)
Valley Center was knocked off the top of the perch of both the league and the Class 5A west district with a 49-7 loss to Goddard last week, while Andover’s hopes for a league title were shattered with a 34-31 loss to Eisenhower.
Goddard clinched the AV-CTL II title with its win over Valley Center since the league bylaws (in football only) does break two-way ties by handing the title to the head-to-head winner.
Valley Center dropped down to third in the West District standings one game behind leader and sole unbeaten in the West Great Bend and 10 points behind Wichita Heights.
Andover fell to seventh, but still managed to secure a top-eight finish in the district and a first-round playoff game.
Valley Center’s Wyatt Lange has 1,203 yards passing and 324 yards rushing. Caleb Rains has 394 yards rushing. Keyon Saunders has 348 yards receiving.
For Andover, Chase Oberg has 1,588 yards passing. Robert Bundy has 710 yards rushing. Evan Bell has 841 yards receiving.
Eisenhower (2-5) at Arkansas City (3-4)
Eisenhower upset Andover 34-31 last week, while Arkansas City downed Newton 56-35.
Ark City is 10th in the West District standings and can move up one place with a win and an Emporia loss or a win by five or more points than Emporia provided Emporia doesn’t win by more than 15 points. Eisenhower is in 12th and can move up one spot with a win and a Kapaun-Mt. Carmel loss.
Ark City’s Brock Dowler has 940 yards passing and 945 yards rushing. Andrew Brautman has 543 yards receiving.
For Eisenhower, Mason Madzey has 629 yards passing and 428 yards rushing. Parker Wenzel has 445 yards rushing. Tanner King has 420 yards receiving.
