The Newton High School girls’ basketball team played well in three of the four quarters, but fell back into some bad habits in the third quarter, stopping Derby 59-35 Tuesday in Ark Valley-Chisholm Trail League Division I play at Ravenscroft Gym.
The Newton High School boys’ basketball team gave the Derby Panthers all they could handle for three quarters, falling in the fourth to drop a 69-54 decision Tuesday at Ravenscroft Gym.

Take away the first five or six minutes of each half, and the Bethel College women’s basketball team owned the 22nd-ranked (NAIA Division II) Friends Falcons.
The Newton High School bowling team made a clean sweep Monday at Play-Mor Lanes with the Railer varsity and junior varsity boys’ and girls’ teams each claiming a win in a triangular with Andover and Andale.
The Bethel College men’s basketball team looked sluggish the entire game, falling to Friends 76-62 Saturday in KCAC play in Wichita.
