HALSTEAD —

ABATE of Harvey County organized a fund-raising event Saturday at the Halstead Park in Halstead to help fund the toy run scheduled for September.

The day was filled with activities from a dunk tank to motorcycle games.

The letters “ABATE” stand for A Brotherhood Against Totalitarian Enactment and American Bikers Aimed Toward Education.

The organization is made up of motorcycle enthusiasts throughout the county. The state Web site said putting motorcycle legislation in its proper perspective is its main concern. This is accomplished through safety education programs, public awareness programs and other proposals designed to prevent fatal or injury accidents.

The proceeds for Saturday’s event will help the organization continue planning for the toy run Sept. 28.

The toy run will begin at 9 a.m. Sept. 28 at Halstead High School.

The first bike out will be at 11 a.m. and last bike out will be at noon.

Harvey County ABATE Representative, Sam McKinney has worked out the route that will take participants through every community in the county.

Beginning in Halstead, those taking part in the toy run will travel through Hesston, Walton, Newton and Sedgwick before ending back in Halstead. The toy run route is 70 miles long.

“We will have a sheriff’s patrol vehicle both leading and following the motorcycles,” McKinney said. “I’ve also been told U.S. Highway 50, will also be stopped while the toy run is on the highway.”

To participate in the toy run, the organization asks for toy donations for ages 12 to 18 or monetary donations.

Proceeds raised from the event will be given to those in need in each of the communities in Harvey County.

Following the toy run, there will be a chili feed in Halstead.
