‘Prairie Winds’ to waft at arboretum

HESSTON —

Dyck Arboretum of the Plains in Hesston will provide the setting for the Newton Mid-Kansas Symphony Orchestra Summer Music Concert “Prairie Winds” at 4 p.m. June 14.

The outdoor concert brings the sounds of woodwind chamber music by Mozart, DuBois, Schickele and Gounod to the prairie gardens.

Whitewater Memorial Library will offer a three-part book discussion series in October and November, exploring the theme “Hispanic Heritage: Mothers, Sisters and Daughters.” Members of the community are invited to attend the free programs at the library, 118 E. Topeka.

ABATE of Harvey County organized a fund-raising event Saturday at the Halstead Park in Halstead to help fund the toy run scheduled for September.

The day was filled with activities from a dunk tank to motorcycle games.
