St. Matthew’s Episcopal Church

Sunday
• Sunday morning worship with Eucharist will be at 10:15 a.m. A nursery will be provided.
Monday
• The Monday evening women’s book club, which meets from 7 to 8:30 p.m. Monday in the lounge, is reading “Having a Mary Heart in a Martha World.”
Tuesday
• The Payee Program will meet at 10 a.m. Tuesday in Parish Hall.
Wednesday
• The Wednesday evening prayer service will be at 6:30 p.m. in the chapel.
• Morning Glories Prayer Circle will meet from 10:30 to noon Wednesdays in the lounge.

Newton First
Baptist Church

Sunday
• Newton First Baptist Church is featuring “Letters to God” for its monthly movie night at 6 p.m. Sunday in the sanctuary.
The movie is a heartfelt tale of inspiration, hope and redemption. It’s the story of what happens when one boy’s walk of faith crosses paths with one man’s search for meaning — the resulting transformational journey touches the lives of everyone around them.
The movie is free and open to the public.

Zion Lutheran Church

Tuesday
• There will be a Ladies Sewing Day at 9 a.m. Tuesday at Zion Lutheran Church, 225 Poplar St. in Newton.
Oct. 9
• Zion is seeking vendors for its Fall Craft and Flea Market on Oct. 9. Booth rental is $25 for a 10-by-10 space. Crafters, “collectors” and distributors are welcomed to apply. Stop by the church or call 283-1441 for an application and to reserve booth space. The deadline for reservations is Oct. 1.  

St. Luke
Presbyterian

Sunday
• Charles Ross and his wife Nancy, who was born and raised in India, will talk about being a Christian in central Africa (Republic of the Congo) during the worship service at 10:30 a.m. Sunday at St. Luke Presbyterian Church.
They were missionaries with the Presbyterian Church for 37 years in the Congo.
His sermon will be “Searching For Life”, referring to John 10:8-10.
The church is at 808 E. Sixth St. in Newton.
Church members start at 8:30 a.m. Sunday with a continental breakfast and fellowship.
Children’s Church, for those ages 3 years old to third grade, and nursery care for children birth through 3 years old during the service and during Sunday school. Sunday school classes for all ages are at 9:15 a.m.

Burrton United Methodist Church

Aug. 29
• Burrton United Methodist Church will host a “Dinner and a Show” for all ages on Aug. 29.
There will be a free hamburger and hot dog dinner at 6 p.m., followed by Glenda & Mike’s Magic Show at 7 p.m.
Glenda and Mike Mann of Hutchinson are a husband and wife team who make their living ministering in a unique way.
They combine illusions, and ventriloquism to convey the message of the gospel.
A free-will offering will be taken for the entertainers.

First Presbyterian Church

Saturday
• Women and friends of First Presbyterian Church will meet for breakfast at 9 a.m. Saturday at The Breakbasket.
Sunday
• The worship service at 10:30 a.m. Sunday will feature music of several selections by Dwight Beckham, trumpet, and Greta Hiebert, organ. An anthem will be sung by the chancel choir.  
Pastor Jim Anderson will deliver the sermon.
The church will provide a nursery for all morning services. It will have Sunday school classes for all ages from 9:15 to 10:10 a.m. Sunday. Fellowship time will be from 10:10 to 10:30 a.m. in the narthex.
• From 6:00 - 8:00, all of The church youth will gather at the church from 6 to 8 p.m. Sunday for games, group-building and gearing up with old and new ideas for the new school year.
Tuesday
• The First Presbyterian Church Session will meet at 7 p.m. Tuesday at the church.
Wednesday
• The Presbyterian Women’s circle lesson study preparation will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday at the church.
• The chancel choir will rehearse at 7 p.m. Wednesday in the choir loft.
Aug. 29
• First Presbyterian members and friends can attend the Sixth Annual Ice Cream Social from 5 to 7 p.m. Aug. 29 at the church. Homemade ice cream of all flavors and home-baked cakes will be served. The public is invited.
