NEWTON —

Saturday

• St. Matthew’s Episcopal Church Clean-Up Day will begin at 9 a.m.

• St. Matthew’s Episcopal Church Prayer Shawl Ministry will meet at 10:30 a.m. in the lounge.

Sunday

• First Presbyterian Church Mother’s Day talent show will be at 9:15 a.m. in the fellowship hall.

• First Presbyterian Church will have a 10:30 a.m. worship service featuring the introit and anthem by the chancel choir.

Following worship, there will be a planning meeting of the church youth, parents and sponsors for the youth group work trip which departs for Ghost Ranch on May 25.

• St. Luke Church’s Pastor Paul Wissink will celebrate mothers during his sermon “A Model for Motherhood.” Worship services are at 8:30 and 11 a.m. Sunday School classes for all ages are offered at 9:45 a.m. Childcare is available for both services and Sunday School, and children’s church is available during the 11 a.m. service. The church is located at 806 E. Sixth.

• St. Matthew’s Episcopal Church will have church school at 9 a.m., followed by Holy Communion and sermon at 10:15 a.m. After the morning service, the church will host a celebration in the Parish Hall to recognize Day of the Pentecost (Whitsunday), Mother's Day and the 2008 graduating high school seniors.

• Newton Christian Church, 210 Southport, offers community classes for all ages from 9 to 10 a.m. Worship service is at 10:30 a.m

• First Presbyterian Church’s Cruisers Club will meet at 7 p.m. at the church. Program will be “A Visit to China with Jim Goering and John Stretcher.” Visitors are welcome.

Tuesday

• First Presbyterian Church middle and senior high youth will meet at 7 a.m. at Druber’s for donuts and fellowship.

• St. Matthew’s Episcopal Church’s payee program will be available from 9 to 11 a.m.

Wednesday

• The First Presbyterian Church’s women’s circles will meet as follows:

Anna Helen Circle at 9:15 a.m. in the church fellowship hall. Mary McGehee will bring the lesson, and hostesses will be Evelyn Haury and Carolyn Adams.

Ellen Irene Circle at 2 p.m. at Manor Apartments. Rojean DuBois will bring the lesson, and Anne Converse will be hostess.

Mary Martha Circle at 7:30 p.m. in the fellowship hall. Ginny Humphrey will bring the lesson, and Clarice Titus will be hostess.

• First United Methodist Church’s Priscilla Circle will meet at 10:30 a.m. at the church, Seventh and Main. Edythe Wendt will bring the program, and Olivia Peck will be hostess.

• The Newton Ministerial Alliance will gather for their last meeting of the 2007-2008 season for a potluck lunch at noon. Rev. Jim Anderson will host the gathering at First Presbyterian Church, 900 Columbus Ave. Dessert will be provided. Time will be given for reflection and sharing about ministry during the past year. Business for the meeting will include election of officers for the coming year.

• First United Methodist Church’s Deborah Circle will meet at 2 p.m. at the church, Seventh and Main. Edie Roberson will bring the program, and Walla Dee Wadlmeier will be the hostess.

• St. Matthew’s Episcopal Church will compline and healing prayers at 7 p.m. in the chapel

• First Presbyterian Church will have bell choir rehearsal at 6 p.m. and chancel choir rehearsal at 7 p.m.

• First United Methodist Church’s Rachel Circle will meet at 7:30 p.m. at the church, Seventh and Main. Program will be by Colleen Reinert, and Betty Adams and Doris Dody will be hostesses.

Thursday

• First Christian Church’s Miriam Group will meet at 10 a.m. at 26 Duncan Lane. Paula Bell will give the study/devotions. No host.

• St. Matthew’s Episcopal Church Vestry will meet at 6:30 p.m. at the church.

• First Christian Church’s Hannah Group will meet at 7 p.m. in the church parlor. Study/devotions will be given by Rita Fitch. Hostess is Jonni Brown.
