NEWTON —

Area residents are invited to listen to a variety of musicians, attend seminars, visit informational booths and enjoy lunch at the “Discover Life After 55” expo. The event is from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Thursday, May 15, at the Newton Activity Center, 415 N. Poplar, Newton. There is no admission charge.

Live entertainment will include:

• 10 a.m.: Schniggle Fritz German Band.

• 10:40 a.m.: Mike Flavin of Newton will play folk guitar music.

• 11:20 a.m.: Dave Anderson will perform hammer dulcimer tunes.

• Noon: Bethany Amstutz and Eric Schrag will present folk and bluegrass music.

• 12:40 p.m.: Judy Mace will entertain with harp classics.

• 1:20 p.m.: Della Mae Harr of Newton will play piano favorites.

In addition to door prizes, exhibits and information of interest to those 55-plus, seminars will be offered during the expo. They include:

• 10:15 a.m., Cottonwood Room: “SilverSneakers Fitness Program Class,” led by Newton Recreation Commission instructor Sherry Beckham. A chair is used for seated and/or standing support. Bring your sneakers and a water bottle.

• 10:30 a.m., Sunflower Room: “Discover How to Remain Fit After 55,” featuring Bob Lida of Wichita, the world’s fastest 71-year-old man.

• 11 a.m., Cottonwood Room: “Mind Aerobics” with Alzheimer’s Association program director Kathy Sikes.

• 11:30 a.m., Sunflower Room: “Discover How to Avoid Financial Faux Pas After 55,” led by Mike Barron of EdwardJones, Newton.

• Noon, Cottonwood Room: “New Treatments in Arthritis: Conservative and Surgical Advancements,” presented by Dr. James Rochelle of Axtell Orthopedics.

• 12:30 p.m., Sunflower: “Discover How to Look Your Best After 55.” The show will feature Chisholm Trail Lifestyle Center appearance consultants from The Salon, Bon Worth and Dress Barn.

• 1 p.m., Cottonwood Room: “Day Trips,” presented by Jeff Arensdorf of Village Tours, Wichita.

The Breadbasket will sell lunch from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m.

More than 30 exhibitors will participate in the “Discover Life After 55” expo. Exhibitors include Active Aging, Advanced Physical Therapy, Asbury Park, Bethel College Life Enrichment, Chisholm Trail Center, The Citizens State Bank, Dillon’s Downtown Pharmacy, Faith and Life Bookstore, Farm Bureau Financial Services, Harvey County Department on Aging, Harvey County Senior Patrol, Hospice Care of Kansas, Hutchinson Credit Union, Kansas Christian Home, Kansas Learning Center for Health, Kidron Bethel Village, Living Rooms by Gayle, Midland National Bank, Newton Area Chamber of Commerce, Newton Medical Center, Parsons Wealth Management, Petitjean, Whitfield and Associates, Prairie View, Presbyterian Manor, Saint Francis Community Services, Schowalter Villa, Social Security Administration, Ten Thousand Villages, Warkentin Board, Wichita Clinic Bethel and Wichita Lifeline.
