SPRINGFIELD, Mo. —
Missouri State University senior Brandon Cheek and his band, Prozium, have released a nine-track debut album, titled “Reset.”
Cheek, who is drummer for the group, is the son of Lori and Ken Knepper of Newton and Stoney Cheek of Springfield. The band was formed in October 2006 consisting of Missouri State students ranging from an entertainment management major to a part-time real estate agent. “Since everyone is in college, the band has been taking it slow, concentrating on writing quality songs,” said Tony Nguyen, lead vocalist and bassist for the group. “We wanted to put together a quality sound and feel like we came up with something unique in ‘Reset.’”The band played on-campus concerts before expanding to local clubs in the Springfield area. Today, they have engagements as far away as St. Louis.“It’s been a good experience playing in a variety of venues and establishing ourselves in the entertainment business,” guitarist Chris Weich said.“Reset” was recorded in November and December at The Studio in Springfield with music producer Lou Whitney. The band’s influences of Tool, Chevelle, Dream Theater and Metallica are evident in many of their tracks.Besides Cheek, other Missouri band members are Nguyen from St. Louis and Weich from O’Fallon. Josh Williams, another guitarist, hails from Pilot Point, Texas.“Juggling band practice with school and work has been a challenge at times,” Cheek said, “but seeing the finished product in the album made all the hours seem worthwhile.”Cheek said the album will be available for digital purchase in mid August on I-Tunes (US/Canada/UK/NZ/Australia/Japan), Amazon.com, Napster.com, Rhapsody.com, eMusic, GroupieTunes, Lala, and Shockhound.
