NEWTON —

What a wonderful event that was. Hats off to all those who worked so hard organizing the event. I hope it continues to grow.

However, it won’t if the city of Newton doesn’t put forth a little effort.

Why didn’t the “city” clean the streets before the event? I also think they could have emptied the trash containers!

The majority of the people attending were from outside the city of Newton. What kind of appearance were you showing the people?

I, for one, did not clean and polish my vehicle only to have it blasted by all the debris blowing against it! If you want to promote the city of Newton, clean things up before events. Is your street sweeper broken?

Take a look at other small towns. See how they handle events. Great Bend Regional Drag Race — very, very clean. Ark City fall festival-car show — again, clean, clean, clean! They have Boy Scouts walking around picking up trash and working as ambassadors. Ask one for information or assistance and they will help or get it for you with a smile.

Why spend money building a convention center if you don’t take care of the entire area you already have?
