The year 2009 was a very good year at Caring Hands Humane Society. More lives were saved in 2009 than in any prior year to date.
We asked our community for help many times and each time you answered.
You brought donations of money and food. More households than ever signed on as foster homes — tripling the size of our foster care program.
Adult and junior volunteers all played a part in making “happily ever after” possible for more cats, dogs and critters than ever before!
Cats and kittens in particular enjoyed a better outlook last year. More foster homes had a lot to do with this.
The biggest difference though? Adopters! Not only have we seen more cat and kitten adopters this year, but I am pleased to say the families who are adopting cats seem to really cherish their feline friends.
There were many obstacles to overcome — most notably the economy. We’ve seen more large dogs come in as people struggled with housing issues. But with your help, we’ve drawn even closer to our ultimate goal of becoming a no-kill facility.
We’re not there yet, and we will face many obstacles in 2010. We’re starting this year with more animals in our care than normal.
Without donations to offset the additional expense of caring for them, we may well have to reduce the scope of our services this year.
I am confident, though, together we will overcome these difficulties and make 2010 an even better year!
You can help by donating or signing on as a foster home. We also have a new adult volunteer program called the Matchmaker program. Call us, stop by or visit our Web site if you are interested.
I want to thank you all! Without community support none of this would have come to pass.
Thank you for a great year in 2009!
