Newton Kansan
If you don’t know our county sheriff, you are missing out on knowing a very well trained, intelligent, caring and professional individual.
My family had a great experience with him on Wednesday and a lesson hopefully my son will never forget. I thought I would share with the people in the community so it is known what a great man Sheriff A.J. Wuthnow is. My son was angry and decided he was going to go for a walk to cool off. After 45 minutes of looking with one of my friends and it being dark, I started to panic. We called Newton PD about 10 p.m. and they came to the house. The officer told us he could look a little bit but they were short staffed that night. We called A.J. to find out what we should do. This is the part I think is awesome and shows that he cares about this community and the people in it. A.J. got out of bed at 10:30 p.m. to come to town and help us find my child. Once he got all the details, he got his deputies involved, along with the North Newton Police, to help find him. About 12:15 a.m. or so, he found my son. He took him to meet all the deputies that were looking for him and took the time that late at night to talk to him about what was bothering him and other ways to deal with it. What an impression that made on him! That is the best thing that could have happened to him and I thank A.J. and the Harvey County Sheriff’s deputies working that night for that. So if you don’t personally know A.J., next time you see him make sure you walk up to him and introduce yourself. Let him know how much he is appreciated in this community. — Crystal Ruiz, Newton
