Congratulations are in order for the following people and organizations who appeared in The Newton Kansan last week:

Steve Kelly, president/CEO, and the Wellness Action Team of Newton Medical Center which was recognized by the Wichita-area American Heart Association.

The Peabody City Park, which was placed on the National Register of Historic Places.

Newton USD 373, which named two finalists for the position of superintendent.

Harvey County Health Department, which has started the process of a county-wide health assessment.

Bethel College head men’s basketball coach Alonzo Jamison and his Threshers, who hosted a basketball clinic for 50 area Special Olympians  in Thresher Gym.

The city of Newton, which began 2013 budget planning with a a surplus of $720,810.

Roberta Seibel of Newton, who on Valentine’s Day serenaded people at Midtown Towers in Newton.

Sound of the Heartland Chorus, an a capella women’s group based in Newton, sang phone grams to the unsuspecting on Valentine’s Day.

Katherine Reed, a seventh grader, took home the first place trophy  in Newton Bible Christian School’s annual spelling bee.  

Miles Johns and Rachel Volk  who were crowned the Winter Sports Festival king and queen at Newton High School.
 
Newton High School students inducted into the Spanish Honor Society.

Hunt-4-Hunger of Emporia, which delivered more than 500 loaves of bread to the Harvey County Salvation Office on West Sixth street.

Air Force Maj. Jeff Wyss of Newton, who was named the U.S. Strategic Command Field Grade Officer of the Quarter.
