Letter: DOD and Hawker Beechcraft

The Department of Defense made it quite clear regarding their opinion of the Hawker Beechcraft AT-6. They are not accepting the AT-6 proposal in their decision making process, which disqualifies it from the bidding process. Nothing else needs to be said.
There is a solution for making competitive aircraft. The Hire Kansans First Act, where Senator Anthony Hensley, Representative Paul Davis and Representative Tom Burroughs, came to Wichita on Dec. 20 to announce Kansas Jobs First.
Item 3, Make Job Training a Top Priority addresses this issue. It must be implemented before the end of the 2012 legislative session.
It is difficult for a politican to say something regarding the remarks made by the Department of Defense. Don't we all attempt to adhere to the promise “If you don't have anything nice to say, don't say anything?”
Therefore, I'm going to use an analogy for what the DOD considers non-competitive aircraft.
Major League Baseball officials come to Wichita's Lawrence Dumont Stadium looking for an expansion team. They attended a minor league Wichita Wingnuts game. After the game a MLB spokesman states “The team is not competitive enough to join our league.” Is there anything left to say? Won't Wichita understand the meaning of the statement?
All hope is not gone.
It is an issue with team management, the talent of the players and who they play their games against. We can do better negotiating with management, Kansans who have years of experience in negotiation skills that have gone untapped; bringing in talented rookies, an apprenticeship program; and veterans who know the game, a mentoring system, that also hones the skills of the veteran player. Games are scheduled in Kansas City, St. Louis and Denver. A transition in attitude makes the team ready for the majors.
