Newton Kansan
I moved to Newton in 1997 to work for the Newton Police Department. I met T. Walton, who was one of the investigators. T. Walton was the type of investigator who cared very much about his job and the victims he was solving cases for. T. Walton has strong dedication to his department, the citizens of Newton and Harvey County, and especially to the men and women who work with him.
In July 2007, I became the assistant chief of the North Newton Police Department. Lt. Walton and I went to the online sex crimes training at the Kansas Law Enforcement Training Center, where we both agreed there was a serious issue of online sex crimes being committed. We both agreed a task force should be formed to take on this challenge. Lt. Walton and I, along with agreements of surrounding police departments in Harvey County, were able to form the OSCAR (Online Sex Crimes Apprehension and Removal) Task Force. Sgt. Scott Powell addressed the issue of who should be sheriff of Harvey County, and he stated if you really want to know who should be sheriff, then ask your fellow police officers, and they should give you their strong opinion who that person should be. (Letter to the editor, Aug. 21) I agree with Sgt. Powell. What better way of making the decision on who should be sheriff than by asking a police officer? I know, as a registered Republican, I’m not voting for my party’s choice. I am voting for who the right man is for the job. The right man is Lt. T. Walton. Lt. Walton has the experience, true integrity, and the community in his heart. — Bill Koonce, assistant chief of police, North Newton
