Jeanie tries to keep any expression off her face while she surrenders her cat to Caring Hands Humane Society.
The staff try to comfort her, but cannot offer any guarantees.
She knows she will cry in the car later but she wants to keep it together until then.
She’s moving, and she’s out of time to find a home for her cat.  She had been so sure that family or friends would be able to help her.
Sometimes finding a home happens very quickly. Other times, it takes a long time. We know.  We’ve re-homed a lot of pets.
The main thing is to start early!  Here are some tips and tricks.
The classified section of www.petfinder.com is an effective way to find a new home for your pet, and it’s free. Call us if you have questions about advertising your pet online – we can help!
Get creative! Flyers work great. Also, mobilize your friends!  Make “business cards” with your pet’s picture, a brief personality description and your phone number.
Give these to your friends and ask them to spread the word. By the time you are done, you can reach a lot of people!
Any one of them might be your pet’s new forever home.
Find that person, and you will spare your pet the stress of the shelter environment.
Of course, we are here if you need us, but a home to home adoption is much easier on your pet — and on you.
In my recent letters, I have hoped to arm you with knowledge.
We’ve talked about solving behavioral issues. (We’ll help!)
We’ve covered spay and neuter. (We’ll help with that too!)
Now we’ve covered moving.
If you ever have to move, start looking early!
In the meantime, the more you strengthen the bond between you and your pet, the better life will be for both of you!
As always, call Caring Hands Humane Society at 283-0839 if we can help.
