As we celebrate National Teacher Appreciation Week, it again seems appropriate to dedicate this column to the efforts of our teachers who continue to work so tirelessly to positively affect the lives of our students in the Newton community.

I can complain about gas prices with the best of them. Just yesterday, I had a good gripe session at Kwik Shop with a gentleman who was also not happy about the little numbers on the pump climbing higher and higher.

As I recall, the Democrats, in taking over both houses of Congress in 2006, had made some promises. One that I remember in particular was they were going to bring down the price of gasoline. To date, I have never heard just how they proposed doing this and certainly have failed to see any results.
