Doris Leota Stevenson, 88, died Wednesday (Feb. 3, 2010) at Newton Medical Center. Doris was born on Feb. 16, 1921 in Atlanta, Kan., to Ora and Livona (Jones) Sturm.
She was married to Floyd Thomas for 31 years and later married Hale Stevenson, who died in 1977.
She was employed at Boeing Aircraft for more than 20 years. She also served as a Red Cross site manager for Meals on Wheels in Halstead. She was an active member of Newton Christian Church for more than 20 years. She enjoyed working with her hands and did crochet and embroidery. She enjoyed traveling and visited Hawaii on three occasions. She loved her family and was a “beloved babysitter.” She had a special place in her heart for babies, children and her dog, Muffin.
She is survived by her three children, sons, Gary and wife, Pam Thomas, of Edmond, Okla., and Mike and wife, Leta Thomas of Halstead; daughter, DeAnn and husband, Will Titus, of Newton; stepsons, Ted and wife, Debbie Stevenson, of Selbyville, Del.; stepdaughter, Andrea and husband, John Ulbrich, of Heathville, Va.; brother-in-law, Helton and wife, Diana Stevenson, of Victoria, Texas; five grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.
She also preceded in death by her parents; sisters, Edna Casebolt, and Alta Faye Belillo; and brother, Lee D. Sturm.
Visitation will be from 1 to 4 p.m. Sunday, at Petersen Funeral Home. The family will be present from 2 to 4 p.m.
The funeral service will be at 2 p.m. Monday at Newton Christian Church.
Memorials have been set up for Newton Christian Church Building Fund and Caring Hands-Humane Society of Newton.
