 Catherine L. Kelly, 59, of Newton, died Saturday (Feb. 6, 2010) at the Harry Hynes Hospice of Via Christi Regional Medical Center-St. Francis Campus in Wichita.
“Cathy” was born on Feb. 1, 1951 in Marion, the daughter of John “Jack” and Betty Herzet Kelly. She was raised in Potwin and graduated from Remmington High School in 1969. She later received her nursing degree from Wichita Area Vo-tech School.
Cathy moved from Potwin to Newton in 1973. She worked as a nurse at Newton Medical Center and was a nurse at Asbury Park for the last 19 years.
Survivors include her son, Jason Kelly of Newton; her mother, Betty Kelly of Wichita; one brother, J.D. Kelly and his companion, Bill Bischoff, of Wichita; three sisters, Kim Wiens and husband, Randy, of Wellington, Jackie Berryman and husband, Gilbert, of Wellington; and Leslie Henline and husband, Rob, of Augusta; several nieces and nephews; and close friend, Mary Smith of Newton.
Recitation of the Holy Rosary will be at 7 p.m., Wednesday and the Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10 a.m. Thursday both at Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church in Newton. Interment will be in the St. Mary Cemetery in Newton.
Friends may call from 9am to 5pm Wednesday at the funeral home.
A memorial has been established with Catholic Care. Contributions may be sent to Broadway Colonial Funeral Home, 120 E. Broadway, Newton, KS 67114.
