Rosalie “Rosie” Borgendale, 80, of Wamego, passed away Tuesday (May 13, 2008) at her home.
Rosie was born Feb. 24, 1928, in Newton, the daughter of Jacob I. and Anna M. (Peters) Schroeder. She graduated from Newton High School in 1946 and started nursing school in 1949, graduating as a R.N. in 1952 from St. Francis School of Nursing in Wichita. She married Dr. L.V. Borgendale, MD, on Aug. 10, 1952, in Newton. He survives of their home in Wamego.She worked as a nurse in several locations while her husband served in the Air Force and studied to become a physician. In 1963, she moved to Wamego with her husband and family. Rosie started working again in 1970 as a director of nursing and later as a staff nurse at Valley Vista Good Samaritan Center in Wamego, where she worked for 31 years until 2001.Rosie was a member of St. Bernard’s Catholic Church in Wamego, the church Women’s Guild and choir, and also served on the church cemetery board. She enjoyed her travels to Europe and Japan, was an expert shopper, enjoyed her beautiful flower gardens and was an amazing cook. She will be remembered as a very caring person and did a lot of things anonymously for people in need.Her survivors include her husband, Dr. L.V. Borgendale of Wamego; two sons, Jerry Borgendale of Wamego and Kevin Borgendale and his wife, Lourdes, of Austin, Texas; her daughter, Patty Vishnefske and her husband Mark, of Mulvane; one brother, Vernon Schroeder of Liberty, Mo.; and seven grandchildren, Dara, John, Michelle, Karen, Paul, Elizabeth and Andrew. She was preceded in death by two children, Lou Jr. and Carol Hill; brothers, Arnold and Arthur Schroeder; and sisters, Louise and Florence.A rosary will be recited at 7 p.m. Friday at Stewart Funeral Home of Wamego, with a visitation following for family and friends until 8:30 p.m. Mrs. Borgendale will lie in-state at the funeral home beginning at 1 p.m. Friday.Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:30 a.m. Saturday at St. Bernard’s Catholic Church. Burial will follow in St. Bernard’s Catholic Cemetery.
