PEABODY — Harry Unger, 82, of Peabody died Wednesday (Feb. 3, 2010) at Newton Medical Center in Newton.

Harry was born on April 11, 1927, at home on the family farm in the Ebenfeld community northwest of Peabody to Peter N. Unger and Mary Seibel Unger. He was baptized and a member of Ebenfeld Mennonite Brethren Church near Hillsboro.

Harry married Audrey Campbell Gillen on Jan. 25, 1975. His wife died on March 25, 2005.

Harry lived on the home place where he was born until October 2006, where he farmed and had feed cattle. Besides farming, he also worked for Ross Industries Flour Mill for 20 years and the Walton Co-op for 12 years. He was a hard working, positive and optimistic man, loved by his family.

Survivors included three step-sons, Dennis Gillen and wife, Donita, of Hesston, Darrell and wife, Corkey, of Wyoming, and Alan Gillen and Dona Stevens of Peabody; seven step-grandchildren and one step-great grandchild; a sister, Edna Schmidt of Hesston; sister-in-law June Campbell; nephews, Jerol Schmidt and wife, Delome, Ronnie Schmidt and Judy, Larry Schmidt and Debra Hogan, Francis and Jacquie Balzer; nieces Barb Soth and husband, Jim, Sharon Schroeder and husband, Richard; and several nieces and nephews, great nieces and nephews, cousins and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents; sisters Gladys Balzer and Alice Hanneman; brother-in-laws, Fred Schmidt, Elmer Balzer and Earl Campbell.
