School district sets limits for usage of credit cards

Cards are used by administrators, staff and some teachers

The Newton school board set limits on its credit cards at is meeting Monday night.
The board set the monthly limits on credit cards at $500 per month and temporary limits not to exceed $4,000.
State statute requires school boards to set annual credit limits and restrictions on credit cards held by their districts.
The district has 14 credit cards issued to district level administrators and supervisors.
Credit limits range from $1,000 to $5,000 per card.
The district has five cards that can be checked out to staff members who are attending conferences, workshops and student activities.
Each person who signs out a card or has a card in his or her name has to sign a card-holder agreement.
The agreement outlines what the card can be used for and the consequences for improper use.
Newton High School programs also have credit cards.
The regular limit on those cards is $300 per day and $500 per month.
There are 53 high school employees with purchase cards compared to 54 last year.
The Robotics program sponsor has a credit card with a credit limit of $5,000.

Other business:

In other business, the board:
• Approved an application for local educational agency pass-through funds.
This federal money in the amount of $1,640,813 comes through the federal government and pays for salaries of some staff.
Supplemental funds in the amount of $54,895 go toward paying for education of children ages 3 to 5.
• Approved a gift of $2,000 from Mid Kansas Co-op/Land-o-Lakes for the Walton Rural Life Center.
