Swimming lessons — Second session starts June 20 — For all ages. Group classes offer eight levels of instruction. Lessons can be taken at the Newton Activity Center Pool or the Newton Municipal Pool. Munchkin Tennis — 9 to 9:45 a.m. Mondays through Thursdays, June 20 through June 30. Participants join high school and college tennis players for instructional tennis lessons. NRC provides racquets and balls. For ages 4 to 6 and ages 7 to 9.
Youth Tennis — 10 to 11 a.m. Mondays through Thursdays, June 20 – June 30. Participants will learn various tennis fundamentals through instruction and match play. Participants must provide their own racquet. NRC provides balls. For ages 10-12 and ages 13-14.
Discovery Camp — 7 a.m. to 6 p.m. weekdays through Aug. 12. The center has planned a wide variety of activities planned, including swimming, library days, craft projects, Adventure Day trips and more for children ages 5 through 12. The program is a state-licensed day care and an SRS-approved program. Discovery camp will participate in the summer food program. Registration packets and medical release forms are required and are available at the Newton Activity Center front desk.

Altered Books, Artist Trading Cards, and Art Journaling — 1:30 p.m. to 3:30 p.m. June 27 through July 1. This class will explore using art to express yourself in a creative journal or in art works to be shared or traded with other artists. We will use recycled materials for some of our work and will focus on collage. For ages 12 and up. Instructor: Beth Burns.

A class to learn basic techniques of different media using water – water color, markers, inks, etc. After spending time learning the basic techniques and studying artists who use those techniques we will create works of our own. We will be creating our own works of art using these techniques. We will print using collagraph, monotype, and relief printing. Call 283-7330 for class times.Take Control With Exercise - Arthritis Foundation Exercise Program – 11:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. Mondays and Thursdays. Developed by physical therapists specifically for arthritis, this low-impact exercise-based program uses gentle activities to help increase joint flexibility and range of motion and helps maintain muscle strength. This program also helps increase overall stamina. Taught by Fred Saab, Certified Arthritis Foundation Instructor. Scholarships available.FREE Senior Swim – 1:00 p.m. to 2:00 p.m. Monday through Friday. Senior swim is free and open to all over the age of 55. The water temperature is kept between 86 and 89 degrees.Free Open Gym - Anyone may bring a basketball and shoot some hoops in NRC's gymnasium during business hours.Climate-controlled indoor walking track - The NRC Gym has a walking track (12 laps equal one mile) which is available for walking at anytime during business hours. Use of the track is free.
