HESSTON — Skoops restaurant, 101 S. Old Highway 81 in Hesston, burned late Tuesday night.
Firefighters were called to the scene about 11:55 p.m. Tuesday and found smoke coming from the west roof of the building, said Russ Buller, director of emergency services.
Firefighters entered the building and found fire in the west ceiling of the building near the kitchen area, Buller said.
The fire was quickly extinguished, Buller said.
The building was closed and secure at the time of the fire, and no one was injured, Buller said.
The cause of the fire is unknown. The case is under investigation.
Buller said the building received structural damage, but a damage estimated has not yet been set.

Man arrested
for threatening woman with gun

A 30-year-old Wichita man was arrested Friday in the 400 block of South Kansas after he allegedly pointed a shotgun at a 20-year-old woman.
Zachariah N. Conner, 30, Wichita, was allegedly at a home at 411 S. Kansas, Apt. 5. A argument arose between him and 20-year-old Hailey Spencer.
Spencer told police Conner pointed a shotgun at her.
Spencer called 911, officers arrived and Conner was arrested.
When police were at the apartment, they found methamphetamine and drug paraphernalia.
Melissa Baker, 32, of Wichita, was arrested on charges of possession of methamphetamine and possession of drug paraphernalia for drug sale, which is a felony.
No one was hurt in the incident.

Arboretum sets
fall plant sale

HESSTON — Dyck Arboretum of the Plains in Hesston will have its annual Fall FloraKansas plant sale Thursday through Sunday.
“The first day of the sale, Thursday, Sept. 9 , from  3 to 7 p.m., is to thank the members of the arboretum by giving them first pick of the plants for sale, said Julie Torseth, arboretum director. “Scott Vogt, arboretum horticulturist, will be on hand to help members and the public choose the right plant for the right place.
 “Fall is a great time to plant shrubs, trees and perennials. We welcome new members joining throughout the sale and who then receive the 10 percent member discount!”
This fund-raiser for the arboretum continues from 8 a.m. to 7 p.m. Friday, from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday, from noon to 4 p.m. Sunday,  and Monday through Sept. 17 by appointment.
Members receive a 10 percent discount. To see many of the plants that will be for sale, go to www.dyckarboretum.org.  This fund-raiser helps maintain the native plant displays at the Dyck Arboretum of the Plains.  For more information, call (620) 327-8127.
