Antique appraisal event on Saturday
Trash or Treasure Antique Event is from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday at the Harvey County Historical Museum, 203 N. Main, Newton.
Participants are invited to bring antique and vintage items for examination and informal appraisal by collectors, auctioneers and dealers. In addition to examining general antiques, specific areas of interest include marbles, glassware (including depression glass), textiles, domestic coins and currency, postcards, fine art, pre-World War II firearms (no modern firearms allowed), jewelry, tools, American Indian and western, toys, railroad related, military, furniture (for larger pieces, bring detailed photos), and service station and auto related.
Participants will purchase a ticket for each item or small grouping of items (for example, a group of three marbles is considered one item) for $7 or $5 for members of the museum. Up to three tickets may be purchased at one time, allowing the participant to have three items evaluated during each “turn in line.” Additional tickets may be purchased by starting the process again, which may require additional waiting. Tickets may be purchased prior to Saturday at the museum during regular open hours from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. daily through Saturday.
Overflow parking for the event is available at Anderson Healthcare, 118 N. Main (in the lot north of the building, and please don’t block the garage door). Special thanks to Anderson for allowing HCHM to use their space.
Harvey County Historical Museum is not accessible to individuals using wheelchairs or other walking aides. For accommodations, contact Debra Hiebert at the museum at 283-2221 by 4 p.m. Friday.
The museum will be closed to regular visitors and researchers on Saturday to host this event.
