WASHINGTON —

U.S. Congressman Todd Tiahrt, R-Goddard, issued the following statement after the Bureau of Labor Statistics reported the national unemployment rate reached 10.2 percent and 190,000 jobs were lost during the month of October. This comes after broken promises from President Obama that the so-called stimulus plan would save or create around 4 million jobs.

Tiahrt has been a leading voice in Congress to repeal the failed stimulus plan and instead revive the economy by helping American workers and businesses become more competitive using conservative, free-market principles.

“President Obama and Speaker Pelosi just got another “F” on their report card for job creation,” Tiahrtsaid. “Their policies are about controlling more decisions made by American families. We have seen this repeatedly this year – whether it’s the Democrat’s proposal for a national energy tax; or a plan to eliminate thousands of Kansas jobs through a nationalized health-care system; or through failed spending programs disguised as a stimulus plan.

In the end, liberal spending schemes leave us with higher taxes, massive debt, fewer jobs and less individual freedom.

We need to fight for true economic stimulus that will remove barriers to private-sector job creation, put spending decisions back into the hands of families and business owners, and lead us toward energy independence. Only when we allow the free-market to work will we see the true potential of the American economy.”
