The First Presbyterian Church is on Columbus Avenue, two blocks north of West Broadway.
n 9:15 to 10:10 — Sunday school classes will be conducted for all ages in the various classrooms.
n 10:10 to 10:30 a.m. — Fellowship time in the narthex
n 10:30 a.m. — The worship service in the sanctuary on the first Sunday in Lent will include worship music by the bell choir and message by Pastor Jim Anderson.

n CWF’s Lydia Group will meet at 10 a.m. Wednesday in the Commons Area at Kansas Christian Home. Joan McCorkle will give the lesson.
Thursday
n CWF’s Miriam Group will meet Thursday at 10 a.m. at Faye McReynold’s, 26 Duncan Lane on the campus of Kansas Christian Home.
n CWF’s Hannah Group meets at 7 p.m. Thursday in the church parlor. Karen Hayes will have the lesson; Rita Fitch will hostess.

n The Burrton United Methodist Church, 120 W. Center St. in Burrton, will host a Potato Bar and bingo on at  6 p.m. March 19.

n The Gentry will be in concert at First Church of God, Fairview and Broadway at 6:30 p.m. Sunday.
The Gentry, based out of Oklahoma City, has performed in Newton on numerous occasions, including being featured at the Chisholm Trail Festival.
Everyone is invited to attend. A love offering will be taken.

St. Luke
Sunday
n St. Luke welcomes Jared Redding. His focus will be contentment and God’s timing.
The Scripture he will be use is Philippians 4:11-12 and 1 Peter 4:8-11.
A continental breakfast will be from 8:30 to 9 a.m., Sunday school begins at 9:15 a.m. They have classes for all ages.
They have nursery available during the Sunday school hour and during our worship time for children ages birth through 3 years old.
Join us for our worship service at 10:30 a.m. at St. Luke Church, 808 E. Sixth St., Newton. They offer children’s church, for ages 3 years to third grade.

Salem United Methodist

n The Rev Nancy Crowl will begin a Lenten study at 5 p.m. Sunday. The study will end on April 17.
Everyone is invited to share in this study.
Crowl will have a healing service at 6:30 p.m. Sunday at Salem United Methodist Church 115 Old Main in Newton.
This service will be on

the second Sunday of every month thereafter. All are invited to this service, which will consist of music, scripture and prayer directed to provide comfort and consolation to those who are suffering with pain and or grief as result of difficult situations in their lives.

Joan Breit will present a Bible study on The Gospel of Matthew in the adult forum at 9 a.m.
n At 10:15 a.m., the Rev. Jerry Skillicorn will preach on “Overcoming Doubt” developing the Lenten theme of Embracing the Promise. The Rev. Mary Siegmund will celebrate Holy Eucharist. A nursery will be provided.
n At 6 p.m., evening song and healing prayers will be conducted. This is mostly a service of sung prayer with additional periods of silence, scripture reading and prayer.
Typically, in a Taize service, more than one language is used in worship (in songs or scripture) to represent the diversity of the Christian community. During the prayers, those who choose may light a votive prayer candle and offer silent prayers. There is also opportunity for healing and anointing oil.
Tuesday
n Payee Program will meet at 9 a.m. in Parish Hall.
Wednesday
n As part of Lenten observation a soup supper will be provided at 6 p.m. Wednesdays during Lent. Evening Prayer will be conducted by The Rev. Mary Siegmund at 6:30 p.m. From 6:50 to 8 p.m. Rev. Siegmund will lead the first of a four-week study Growing in Christ: the Book of Ephesians.
n From 6 to 9 p.m., individuals or small groups may come and say the stations of the cross. Booklets will be available.
Thursday
n Morning Glories Prayer Circle will meet from 10:30 to  noon in the lounge.
 
Retreat: The Road to Emmaus
Saturday
n From 9 a.m. to 3 p.m., the Rev. Jerry Skillicorn will facilitate a retreat and lead a presentation focusing on The Road to Emmaus at St. Matthew's Episcopal Church.
For more than fifty years, Skillicorn, a skilled retreat leader, has led retreats and conferences aimed at developing one’s spiritual life. He leads people through spiritual exercises, and teaches centering prayer, meditation, methods for entering the scriptural story and ways of prayer ministry.
There is no charge for the retreat that includes lunch. Those wishing to attend should register in advance by calling the church at 283-3310 to register. A suggested $15 donation can be made at the door.
