A member of the Newton FFA Chapter was recognized onstage for having one of the best career development programs in the state at the 81st Kansas FFA Convention.
Katie Sharp received a State FFA Proficiency during the convention for outstanding accomplishments she has made in completing programs that will prepare her for a career in agriculture.
The proficiency award program recognizes students for exceptional accomplishments and excellence in a Supervised Agricultural Experience program.
The program allows students to set goals and gain real-world experience in a chosen area of the agriculture industry.
Sharp won her award in the area of specialty animal production. Her program consists of her work volunteering at the Sedgwick County Zoo, as well as her job at the Great Plains Pet Hospital where she performs tests in the lab and assists the doctor with daily activities.
She plans to attend Fort Hays State University and earn a degree in animal science with a minor in zoology. Sharp is the daughter of Ernest and Michelle Sharp.
