NEWTON —

Reno County officials have put out an alert to Kansas residents of a scam circulating in their area.

About half a dozen people have received letters from a Michael McCloud of MLM Enterprises LLC out of Bloomfield, Conn.

McCloud is telling the people they have delinquent property taxes, which they do not, and he will buy their property for $250.

One of the victim’s homes was worth $145,000.

McCloud told the victims to complete the enclosed Quit Claim Deed and return it to him, and he will check the title and send the homeowner the money.

He said he got this information from the Reno County Web site.

Reno County officials have notified law enforcement of this scammer.

Officials are telling people to call their county treasurer and double check their taxes and give the treasurer’s office their names and addresses, so they can continue to get a case against this person and company.

Becky Noble, Harvey County treasurer, said no cases of this scam have been reported in Harvey County, but she wanted people to be aware of the potential scam in case they receive letters.
