The Kansas Department of Health and Environment and the Kansas Department of Wildlife and Parks have removed a stream advisory for Middle Emma Creek in Harvey County.

The advisory was issued June 10 and applied to Middle Emma Creek from Northwest 72nd Street, continuing six miles downstream to West First Street.

On June 7, a landowner downstream of Hesston notified KDHE of a fish kill in the creek.

KDHE determined organic waste from Sunglo Feeds had overwhelmed the Hesston Municipal Wastewater Treatment Facility, resulting in the release of poor-quality effluent into Middle Emma Creek.

KDHE has determined the creek does not pose a significant risk for human contact and pets and livestock can be allowed normal access to the creek again.
