HESSTON —

On Tuesday, Dyck Arboretum of the Plains is hosting “Chasing Colorful Songbirds” with Bob Gress in the Visitor and Education Center in Hesston. This is the second of the Winter Lecture Series. Attendees can RSVP for supper at 6 p.m. or just the lecture at 6:30 p.m. ($2 for lecture, $7 for supper and lecture). Call (620) 327-8127 by noon Monday before for supper reservations.

“Good birders know the level of effort, patience, preparation and luck that go into the chase that results in a good look or even a photograph of elusive avian creatures. This presentation about chasing colorful warblers, buntings, vireos, tanagers, grosbeaks, orioles and more during their migration from the Gulf Coast of Texas to the boreal forests of Wisconsin is sure to delight with stunning images, innovations in photography and tales of adventurous pursuit,” said Brad Guhr, director of education at Dyck Arboretum.

Bob Gress, director of the Great Plains Nature Center in Wichita, has mastered the art of photographing elusive wildlife and has nearly 3,000 photos printed in a variety of magazines and books. Gress’ photography has been most recently featured in his new book “The Guide to Kansas Birds and Birding Hotspots.” This book will be for sale at the lecture.
