Obituary: Kenneth 'Skip' Hershberger

Kenneth “Skip” Hershberger, 86, of Sedgwick died on Wednesday (Feb. 8, 2012).
He was born on Oct. 9, 1925, the son of Alan and Anna Hershberger. Kenneth graduated from Newton High School, where he played football and basketball. He served in the U.S. Navy and was stationed on Guam during World War II.
On Aug. 27, 1950, he married Joan Stamback in Sedgwick, and she survives.
Kenneth was a member of the Sedgwick United Methodist Church and the American Polled Hereford Association. He was a farmer and cattleman and worked for King Construction Co. in Hesston. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, gardening and following KU basketball.
Other survivors include daughters, Diana and husband, Rich Krol of Nickerson, and Lisa Hershberger of Sedgwick; sons, Danny and wife, Kris of Branson, Mo., and Jon and wife, Anndrea of Wichita; brothers, Joe and wife, Mary Hershberger of Hesston, and Carl and wife, Nancy Hershberger of Lindsborg; sisters, Alma Ewert of Newton, and Virginia and husband, Jerry Davison of Sedgwick; nine grandchildren; and 10 great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents; stepmother, Ida Hershberger; brother, Dick; and sisters, Doris Jones and Bonnie Jantz.
Funeral services will be at 10:30 a.m. Monday at Sedgwick United Methodist Church in Sedgwick, with the Rev. Paul Stephens officiating.
Burial will follow at Hillside Cemetery in Sedgwick.
Memorials may be given to the church or Good Shepherd Hospice, in care of Kaufman Funeral Home of Halstead.
