On Tuesday, about 20 Shih Tzus came to Caring Hands Humane Society in Newton looking for a second chance. Within 24 hours after they arrived, almost to the minute, they all had new loving homes.
The dogs were part of a rescue operation by Kansas Animal Health Department.
This is the second largest rescue Caring Hands Humane Society has helped with so far this year.
Marketing and public relations coordinator Jack Brand said, “We are thrilled and deeply grateful to all the people who offered these dogs a second chance. This was just incredible!”
There are many small breed dogs still available for adoption, including Pugs, Cocker Spaniels, a Shih Tzu/Lhasa Apso Mix and a Toy Fox Terrier. These dogs were placed in foster care to make room for the Shih Tzus.
They will be returning in the next few days. Adoption applications are being accepted now.
“We couldn’t have done this without our foster home volunteers” said Caring Hands Executive Director Kevin Stubbs, “but we would have needed more Foster Homes to take in any more dogs.”
