The Veterans Committee of Harvey County will present the Third-Annual Harvey County Veterans Day Parade at 2 p.m. Sunday in downtown Newton.

The parade route is from Fifth and Main streets north to 11th and Main streets.

Organizers said they would like to invite all of the residents of Harvey County to come out and show their support for all of our Harvey County veterans and troops.

Veterans wishing to be in the parade should meet between 1 and 1:45 p.m. at the staging area on West Fifth Street, just off of Main Street,

Following the parade, there will be a Community Veterans Benefit Barbecue/Auction starting at 4:30 p.m. at the Newton Kansas Army National Guard Armory at 400 Grandview St., next to Athletic Park in Newton.

This event is open to all Harvey County residents.

The menu is hamburgers, hot dogs, side salads, chips, tea, coffee and water.

The barbecue is free for all, with donations at the door.

The auction will start at 5 p.m. with many items being offered, including tickets to the Crown Up Town Theater, movie pass to Chisholm Trail 8 Theaters, golf pass to area golf courses and much more.

Starting at about 6:30 p.m., there will be live music from Charlie Rippe a young performer from Peabody.

Funds raised from this event will go to support programs for local veterans, troops and their families, the Spc. Ronald A. Schmidt Memorial Scholarship Fund and the construction of the Harvey County Service Memorial.
