Summer is here with a hot bang.
As you turn down East First unto Allison Street, you may spot two children, a girl, Layla “Pinky” McKay, and a boy, Kenyon Gregory, selling lemonade there between noon and 3 p.m. a couple of times a month.
“It was their idea,” said their mother, Cassie McKay.
“We need a another pitcher, Mom,” said Layla McKay.
The kids had sold three pitchers in just two hours.
“Last year, they made over $100 selling lemonade during the summer,” Cassie McKay said. “They bought a nice hamster cage with two hamsters. They also buy their own supplies, such as cups and lemonade.”
“I made the signs for the stand,” said their dad, Eric Roberts.
This is the siblings’ second summer selling lemonade. The kids use walkie talkies to communicate and for safety reasons. They only are two houses away from the corner, and the parents have the kids take breaks for water and from the heat.
After just two or three hours, the siblings had made $15.
“We are very proud of them showing responsibility at such a young age,” their mother said.
