Do you ever say things that come out wrong? Yup, the same thing happens when you write, too.

In last week’s column, I forgot a few important words, namely “on the sidewalks,” when talking about bicycling downtown. So, let me clarify.

I wrote that bicycling was prohibited downtown. Oops. What I meant — but didn’t write — was bicycling is prohibited on the sidewalks downtown in the Central Business District. (I suppose that’s what I get for writing late at night with too little Diet Coke in hand.)

So my apologies to all for the confusion. Bicyclists are, as always, welcome on our lovely streets, including those downtown. And speaking of transportation …

Q. Can a person park cars in their yard? What about junky vehicles?

A. No, and there are restrictions. Cars shouldn’t be parked on grass, but rather on concrete or asphalt, or in some instances, rock, according to information on this subject supplied by the city last year.

As far as junky vehicles, those that are considered “inoperable,” such as having a flat tire, missing wheels or without current license or registration, need to be stored or parked inside an enclosed structure. One such vehicle can be stored on private property if on a paved driveway, tarped in a backyard, or screened by a privacy fence or “decorative vegetation.”

From June 15 to Aug. 15, residents temporarily can have up to two demolition derby vehicles, but such vehicles have to be registered with the city, and there is a small permit fee.

And that’s it for this week. I apologize for my brevity, but alas, homework calls. Toodles, everyone!
