Prime planting time is nearly upon us. What a perfect time for a Home and Garden Show.

The Harvey County Home and Garden Show is just around the corner.

Mark your calendar for April 10 and 11 at the National Guard Armory at 400 Grandview in Newton. The show will include a trade show of home and garden exhibitors, lawn and garden seminars, birdhouse gourd painting for youngsters, the Harvey County Farmers Market, door prizes and much more. This years’ theme is “Meet Me At The Garden Gate.”

A slate of educational speakers has been lined up.

Topics include: photography in the garden, using color in garden designs, enabling gardening ideas, 50 years of gardening, rain barrels, insect identification and control in the garden, household insect control, beekeeping, beginner gardening, butterflies and birds, and medicinal herbs.

Kids can paint their own birdhouse gourd to take home.

Harvey County master gardeners have been planning all year for this hands-on activity.

At 2 p.m. on both days of the show, youngsters are invited to participate.

Enjoy fresh locally grown cool-season vegetables, honey and baked goods at the farmers’ market during the show, as well.

Those interested in being an exhibitor should call 284-6930 for details. Space is limited.
