NORTH NEWTON —

Five people were injured in an accident between Partridge and Arlington in Reno County. The scene is near Kansas Highway 61 and Lake Cable Road.

According to the Kansas Highway Patrol, a car driven by Lester Ewy, 86, of North Newton failed to yield at the intersection and was struck by a semi.

All five people inside the car were taken to hospitals.

Ewy is being treated at Hutchinson’s Promise Medical Center.

Four passengers — Barbara Friesen, Winifred Ewy and Norman and Ethel Abrahams, all of North Newton — were taken for treatment at Wichita’s Via Christi-St. Francis campus.

The truck driver was not injured.
