An 18-year-old woman has been arrested in connection with three fires within 18 months in Newton.
Elyssia Walton, 18, 1220 N. Madison, was arrested Sept. 1 on a charge of aggravated arson, a felony, Lt. Eric Murphy of the Newton Police Department.
Walton is charged with setting fires at her family’s home, where she lived, on March 7, 2009, July 8, 2009, and on Aug. 21, Murphy said.
The most recent fire caused $15,000 to the house and its contents.
Through the process of the investigation, it was determined Walton set the fires, Murphy said.
The first fire caused $25,000, the second fire caused $30,000 in damage to the home.
No one was hurt in any of the fires.
Walton’s case is set for preliminary hearing at 2 p.m. Friday.
Walton indicated she could not make bond, so no bond was not set, according to the clerk of the district court’s office.
