Two men were critically injured Monday afternoon during a vehicle accident on Interstate 135 near Newton. At about 4:15 p.m., a 1996 Chevrolet Astro Van driven by Richard Vinson of Hutchinson was stopped in the northbound, inside lane of travel on I-135 at milepost 29.5, a news release from the Harvey County Sheriff’s Department said. Christopher Clark of Newton was traveling northbound on I-135 in a 1995 Pontiac and struck the stopped van from the rear. Both subjects were trapped and were extricated by the Newton Fire/EMS personnel and transported to Wesley Medical Center in critical condition. Clark suffered a broken wrist, two broken bones in his leg, and a severe laceration to his head, the news release said. Vinson had a possible fractured neck and other minor injuries. Both were listed in stable condition the evening of the accident. This morning, Clark was listed in fair condition, and Vinson was listed in good condition, the news release said.
