USDA Rural Development will sponsor a Housing Program Information Workshop from 7 to 9 p.m. Thursday at the Halstead Senior Center, 523 Poplar St. in Halstead.
Potential Homeowners, real estate agents, lenders and community leaders are invited. The workshop is free. The workshop will be co-hosted with Harvey County Economic Development Council.
The meeting will focus on the home buying process. USDA Rural Development will discuss how the agency processes files, determines property eligibility, Consumer Credit Counseling will focus on money management counseling, and a local real estate agent will provide updates on the home-buying potential that exists in the area.
Recently, USDA Rural Development also announced it is seeking applications from residents who qualify for the agency’s Single Family Housing Direct Loan Program.
The program provides home purchase financing, repairs, and re-financing provisions for lower-income families.
This year, in addition to the regular annual allocation of funds from Congress, American Recovery and Reinvestment Act appropriations have been added to the program totals.
This has increased available financing by more than 225 percent of the previous fiscal year.
For more information on this workshop, contact the Newton USDA Rural Development Area Office at 283-0370, ext. 4. For more information about the agency, go to www.rurdev.usda.gov/ks  or call (785) 271-2700.
