This is musical weekend at area high schools — Newton High School will present "Godspell," Berean Academy will perform "Winnie the Pooh," Remington will stage "The Boy Friend," Goessel will stage "Beauty and the Beast," Halstead will produce "Singin' in the Rain," Moundridge will host "Joseph and the Technicolor Dreamcoat," Sedgwick High School will adapt the movie "Shrek" and Peabody-Burns High School will  enact "Cindy."

 

Showtimes and ticket prices vary from school to school.

 

 

2. Celebrate the festive season

 

The St. Mary Festive Fall Fair, formerly known as the St. Mary Bazaar, will be from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Nov. 11 in the St. Mary School, 101 E. Ninth.

 

The fair will feature a meal of marinated chicken from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Cost of the meal is $10 for a large plate and $6 for a small plate.

The fair market will feature baked goods, Altar Society cookbooks, twice-sold Christmas treasures, jewelry, a silent auction, a raffle, Christmas stockings containing special prizes and a variety of craft and vendor booths.

 

 3. Get it signed

A book signing event for "Trackside At The Mill 1981-1998" will be from 1 to 3 p.m. on Nov. 10  at Anderson's Book Store, 627 N. Main. Sam Andrews, author of the book, will sign copies.

Ardent Mills’ Newton plant recently celebrated its 100-year anniversary, the book documents some of the mill history, Andrews wrote about the history of the facility and what it is like to work there.

 

4 Have dinner

Celebrity servers

Peace Connections and Harvey County Circle of Hope will host a "Celebrity Servers" event from 5 to 8 p.m. Nov. 12  at Water’s Edge Restaurant, 701 S. Main, in Hesston.

This is the sixth annual event, during which local celebrities serve as waiters and waitresses for a restaurant meal.

 

5. Try something unique

 

The Walton Rural Life Center will host a Mountain Oyster Feed from 6 to 8 p.m. Nov. 10 at the school, 502 Main, Walton.

In addition to the meal, the school will host a 1/2 a hog raffle. Tickets will be $2 each or 3 tickets for $5. Winners will be drawn at 6:45 p.m. at the Mountain Oyster Feed. There will be two winners for 1/2 hog each. You do not need to be present to win.
