at 3A state

HUTCHINSON — The Hesston High School finished 2-1 in pool play at the Class 3A state volleyball tournament at the Hutchinson Sports Arena.

The Swathers finished in a three-way tie for first in the pool and finished second after tie-breakers were applied.

Hesston opened play with a 25-22, 25-23 win over Nemaha Central. Hesston lost to Burlington 25-20, 25-17. The Swathers then downed league rival Hoisington 19-25, 25-14, 25-17.

Hesston is 32-8 and plays Silver Lake at 2 p.m. today in the semifinals. Burlington and Beloit also meet in the semifinals at 2 p.m. The finals and third-place match will follow.

Moundridge 2-1

in pool play

EMPORIA — The Moundridge High School volleyball team reached the semifinals of the Class 1A state volleyball tournament after a 2-1 finish in pool play at White Auditorium in Emporia.

Moundridge downed Beloit St. John’s-Tipton Catholic 25-23, 25-15; lost to Spearville 20-25, 25-22, 25-16; and beat South Gray 25-14, 25-12.

Moundridge is 34-11 and faces unbeaten Centralia at 10 a.m. today. Spearville and Olpe will meet in the other semifinals.

The championship match and third-place matches follow.

Bethel falls

to Tabor

The Bethel College volleyball team fell to Tabor College in three sets Friday in KCAC play at Thresher Gym.

Bethel fell 25-17, 25-20, 25-17.

Tabor was led by Jessanna Nebel with 13 kills and Taylor Quiring with 10. Keeley Kroeker and Samantha Smith each set 19 assists. Smith served three aces. Tianna Frazell had 15 digs. Nebel and Kendra Kroeker each downed three blocks.

For Bethel, Mia Loganbill had nine kills. Kaylee VanderVeen set 15 assists, followed by Avery Myatt with 10. Rachel Bustillos served three aves and had 10 digs. Loganbill downed two blocks.

Tabor improves to 13-14, 4-6 in KCAC play.

Bethel is 6-18, 3-7 in KCAC play, and plays at 7 p.m. Wednesday at Ottawa.

HESSTON — The Hesston College volleyball team ended the regular season with a pair of wins Friday at Yost Center.

Hesston beat the McPherson College junior college 25-16, 25-22, 25-22; and Seminole State College 25-11, 25-20, 25-14.

Against McPherson, Kylee Kasselman had 16 kills. Faith Hallmark had 27 assists. Hallmark and Macey Murray each served three aces. Kasselman and Hallmark each had 14 digs. Murray had 12 digs and Annalys Hanna had 10 digs. Jade Gleason downed three blocks.

Against Seminole State, Gleason had 10 kills. Hallmark set 26 assists. Hanna had 12 digs, followed by Hallmark with 11 and Kasselman with 10. Paulina Diaz downed four blocks, followed by Kasselman and Samantha Rossin with three each.

Hesston is 13-17.
