HALSTEAD — Art, music and more are scheduled for the 51st annual Brick Street Halstead Arts and Crafts Festival, held this year from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Oct. 20 on Main Street in Halstead.
"It really is just a lovely day," said organizer Mary Lee McDonald. "We have a food court area that is set up with the music and the food and then we have this awesome, free kids zone."
Vendors from across Kansas will be selling soap, fine art, repurposed items, home decor, weighted blankets, jewelry, pottery, organizers, homemade food and more at booths set up on the bricks of Halstead's Main Street.
"We're looking at over 40 vendors," McDonald said. "...Quality-wise, I'm really excited about the vendors this year. There's some really good stuff."
Children will have the opportunity to get creative with free art activities set up in a kids zone at the Brick Street Halstead Arts and Crafts Festival.
"The crafts that they're doing this year for the kids are so cool," McDonald said.
Both children and adults can also perform for the chance to win prize money at Halstead's Biggest Little Star, a talent competition held from 1:30 to 3:30 p.m. at Sips Coffee & Chat, located at 225 Main St. in Halstead. Individuals and groups are encouraged to register by Oct. 17 to vie for first place in one of three age categories — 8 and under, 9 to 13 and 14 and up.
"They get to come in and do a sound check and the whole thing," McDonald said. "It's very low key, but it gives them the opportunity to perform outside of school."
Live music will be performed by local groups Outside the Walls and Neighbors. Food options will be offered by the Masonic Lodge and Salted Creamery, with other downtown restaurants and businesses open as well for attendees to stop in.
"It really is just a nice, family, fall event," McDonald said.
McDonald said a team of volunteers are helping her coordinate the various events at the art festival.
"We have the best committee," McDonald said. "...They really have come together."
The Brick Street Halstead Arts and Crafts Festival is being sponsored by Halstead Bank, Central National Bank and the city of Halstead.
