GOP plans meet and greet

The Harvey County Republican Party is hosting a meet and greet with Steve Kelly, candidate for the 72nd district representative from 7 to 9 p.m. Sept. 18 at the Newton Rec Center, 415 N Poplar St.

 

Informed Women hosting forum

Informed Women of Harvey County will host a Candidate Forum at 7 p.m. Sept. 13, at Trinity Heights United Methodist Church, 1200 Boyd, Newton.

Candidates for the 72nd District seat Steve Kelly and incumbent Tim Hodge will speak on the issues currently facing Kansas and their recommendations for solutions. 

This event is free and open to the public. Donations are happily accepted to defray costs.

 

Flatlander this weekend

The annual MCC Flatlander Bike Ride will be held Sept. 15, originating at the MCC offices in North Newton.

The goal for the 2018 Flatlander Bicycle Ride is to raise $10,000 for a water project in Guatemala. The project is to support food security and community organization among Ch’orti’ women in the Eastern Highlands of Guatemala, an area that has been devastated by drought and commodity price collapse for the past 5-7 years. 

All routes will start from the MCC Center. Registration will be from 7to 8 a.m.. A riders' meeting will take place at 8 a.m. Three main routes are planned, with lengths of approximately 35, 45 and 65 miles. In addition, there will be a family ride of 8 to16 miles, according to rider discretion
