A vehicular accident led to the temporary closure of Chong's, 1816 N Main St.

Reports are not complete by the Newton Police Department, however, what is known is a southbound vehicle driven by Dat Bach, 73, Newton plowed into the building at 1816 N Main St. at about 12:18 a.m. Sept. 11

The building sits at the intersection of Main Street and Hesston Road or Old 81.

According to police reports, Bach was southbound on Old 81 and did not stop at a stop sign, crossed Main Street and struck the building. He did not suffer any serious injuries. According to police, he had not been drinking prior to the accident. The eatery was closed at the time of the accident.

"It looks probably worse for the building than it does the person," said Craig Douglass, an investigator with the Newton Police Department. "I am not sure what happened. A pure guess is they fell asleep. There were no skid marks there, from what I was told the only marks there are from the person trying to back up out of the building."
