City commission to host special meeting

The Newton City Commission will meet in a special meeting at 4 p.m. Sept. 11 in the third-floor conference room of Newton City Hall, 201 E. Sixth. 

There are two agenda items for the special meeting. The commission will receive plans, cost estimates and cost-sharing information for a Law Enforcement Center remodel. The commission is expected to consider approval for city and county staff to move forward with the project. 

The commission will also consider an airport facilities improvement plan.

The Newton City Commission will meet at 7 p.m. Sept. 11 in the commission meeting room of Newton City Hall, 201 E. Sixth.

Agenda items include a proclamation of Constitution week, a request to close a downtown alley for Midland National Bank's 125th anniversary, a request to close a portion of First Street for the Newton High School Homecoming Parade, a special event request for Krehbiel Park, an event request for SafeHope Oktoberfest, a temporary alcohol permit for an event in Athletic Park, special assessments in Fieldstone division, a discussion of the municipal swimming pool, proposed improvements to Klein Scott Field in Centennial Park, recommendations of transportation priorities to be presented to the Joint Legislative Transporation Vision Task Force, water and sewer improvements to Rolling Hills sixth addition and a period for public comment. 

 

County commission to meet

The Board of Harvey County Commissioners will meet at 9 a.m. Sept. 10 in the commission room of hte Harvey County Courthouse, 800 N. Main. 

Agenda items include dam breach regulations, the purchase of vehicles for the sheriff's office,  the purchase of a mini excavator for the parks department, an executive session to meet with legal counsel, an executive session to discuss personnel and a period for public comment.
